Gas crisis hits several parts of Dhaka

Dhaka city dwellers are struggling hard as an acute gas crisis hits several parts of the city.People said that the crisis was hampering their household chores. Some dwellers said that they had to buy foods from outside in the last three days as they were unable to cook at home for low gas pressure.Housewives are forced to cook food at night or at dawn as the gas flow in those areas are weak in the morning and in the evening.Residents of different areas in the capital and adjacent areas including Lalmatia, Uttara, Ibrahimpur, DOHS, Bashundhara, Mirpur, Alibag, Ashkona Prembagan, Dhanmondi, Lalbag, Azimpur and Kamrangirchar have been suffering the worst.Sources with Titas Gas T and T office said that 70 per cent of complaints received by two emergency gas control units in Dhaka south and north in past few days are regarding unusual gas supply.It was also learnt that gas supply was hampered even in the canteen of National Parliament Building at 8:00 am on Friday.Amina Begum a housewife from capital’s Lalbag told Jagonews24.com that she had to awake late at night to prepare breakfast and lunch for next day as the gas pressure is low in the morning.“The gas pressure is so low that it takes about an hour for me to prepare four cups of tea. As such, I have no alternatives but to cook food at night,” she said.Arafat Hossain, who runs a medicine shop at Ashkona Prembagan area in the capital, told jagonews24.com that he had been facing acute gas crisis in his area for the last three days. “We have to prepare foods before sun rise for our 20-member joint family as gas pressure is very low in day or evening time,” he said.When asked, radio operator at emergency gas control unit for Gulshan and Uttara area Anisur Rahman, told jagonews24.com that most of the complaints they received in the last few days are regarding low gas supply.He, however, declined to elaborate on the complaints.
