The nation celebrates Begum Rokeya Day on Wednesday marking the birth anniversary of the pioneer of an awakening for women`s rights in the subcontinent.Ministry of Women and Children affairs will give away Begum Rokeya Padak 2015 to late Dr. Taibun Nahar and Bibi Rasel at Osmany Memorial auditorium today for their outstanding contribution.Various socio-cultural and political organizations have taken up elaborate programmes to observe the birthday of the celebrity. President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages paying their rich tributes to the memory of Begum Rokeya on the occasion.It is mentionable that, Begum Roquia Sakhawat Hussain, popularly known as Begum Rokeya was a leading feminist writer and social worker in undivided Bengal during the early 20th century. She is most famous for her efforts on behalf of gender equality and other social issues.
