Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad on Sunday urged the concern authorities to make the upcoming municipality election free and fair.If the polls are held free and fair, it would brighten the image of the government, he said.The JP Chairman was addressing a discussion as the chief guest at Kakrail Institution of Diploma Engineers.JP organised the discussion marking the "Constitution Upholding Day" declared by Ershad. Chaired by Jatiya Party Presidium Member Syed Abu Hossain Babla, the discussion was addressed, among others, by JP Presidium Member and Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud and its Secretary General Ziauddin Bablu, MP.Ershad, also a former President, said he handed over the power to Chief Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed in a peaceful way in 1991.Afterwards the JP leaders and workers were harassed and arrested during the BNP government, he added. He said he did not get justice.Anisul Islam Mahmud said the JS believes in democracy and it took part in all elections in the county since its formation.
