Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league established in 2012 by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). BPL replaced the previous competition, National Cricket League T20, and features seven city-based franchises, instead of six division teams which had participated previously.Following the success of franchise Twenty20 cricket leagues such as the Indian Premier League around the world, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a plan to replace the National Cricket League with a franchise based league. The first edition of the league was officially launched on 9 February 2012, in a lavish opening ceremony at home of Bangladesh Cricket.
