Two killed in Jamalpur road accident

Two sisters were killed and four others injured in a road accident on Jamalpur-Dewanganj road in Kompopur area under Sadar upazila of the district on Sunday.The deceased were identified as Pankha, 60, wife of Sahijal at village Bahadurpur in Islampur upazila and her younger sister Hawa Begum, 58, wife of Shahjamal at village Sajimara in Bakshiganj upazila of the district.The injured are auto-rickshaw driver Badal, 40, passengers Lakkhindar, 50, Osman Ali, 40, and Sahijal, 60.Police said the accident occurred when a Dewanganj-bound fish-loaded pickup van from Jamalpur town collided head-on with a CNG run auto-rickshaw from opposite direction on the Jhainai Bridge at 7.15 am, leaving six injured.The injured were rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital where the attending doctors declared Pankha and Hawa Begum dead.Of the injured, critically Badal and Osman Ali referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital while Lakkhindar was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital.Police detained the helper Chanchal but the driver of the pick-up van Momin managed to flee. Sub-inspector, Joynal Abedin said.A case was registered with Jamalpur police station.
