There is no option to rehabilitate Santals on Rangpur Sugar Mills’ land at Mahimaganj in Gabindaganj under Gaibandha district, the deputy commissioner of the district Md. Abdus Samad said at a joint press briefing on Sunday.The district administration offered an option to Santals for rehabilitation on 14.26 acres of land at Katabari union of the district.Abdus Samad blamed a vested quarter to instigate the Santals to occupy the land.The deputy commissioner said the drive on that day wasn’t conducted to evict the aborigines, the law enforcing agency took step for personal security and to protect public properties and arms.The police went there to arrest the accused of different cases, he said.The aborigines occupying the land of Suger Mills had banned mass people to enter in the area. That’s why the people were enraged on them, Abdus Samad added.Who are claiming that they live in open field, everyone has own house, the bureaucrat claimed.Abdus Samad said, “But we make a list of 31 aborigine people, who have no land”.
