“I am very happy to be here”: Naipaul

Trinidadian Nobel Prize-winning British writer Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul said that he is happy to be in Bangladesh.“I am happy to inaugurate the festival and very happy to be here,” Naipaul, who won Nobel Prize for literature in 2001, said.The veteran writer inaugurated the sixth edition of Dhaka Lit Fest (DLF) on Thursday. Literature loving people crowded on the first day of this prominent international literary event held at Bangla Academy premises.Naipaul applauded the festival organizers and the visitors.DLF 2016 paid tribute to late Bangladeshi poet, lyricist and writer, Syed Shamsul Haq, with a staged performance of his short novel “Neel Dongshon” in English.Over 200 talents and more than 60 guests of the literary world from 18 countries are attending the festival this year.Pulitzer Prize winner American-Indian poet Vijay Seshadri, 2016 Man Booker Prize winner Deborah Smith and winner of 2014 European Union Prize for Literature Evie Wyld are also expected to join the festival.
