Govt spells out definition, age of FFs

The government today spelt out the definition and age of freedom fighters in light of the recommendation of Jatiya Muktijoddha Council to make a reliable and acceptable list of freedom fighters.The ministry for liberation war affairs issued a gazette notification in this regard, said an official release.According to the definition, those who took part in the liberation war between March 26 and December 16 in 1971 to liberate the country in response to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be regarded as freedom fighters, reports BSS.They include those who crossed the border and got enrolled in different training camps in India, those Bangladeshi professionals who make particular contribution to the liberation war staying abroad, those who worked as officers and employees under the provisional government formed during the liberation war, members of armed forces, police, EPR and Ansar who took active part in the liberation war, the MNAs and MPAs who took part in the war and were involved with the provisional government, women repressed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their associates (Birangana), artistes and technicians of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and Bangladeshi journalists working at home and abroad, players of Swadhin Bangla football team and doctors, nurses and assistants who treated wounded freedom fighters during the liberation war.To get enrolled as freedom fighter anew, one has to be at least 13 years old on March 26, 1971.
