Writ seeks govt explanation on steps against B’baria perpetrators

A writ petition was filed on Sunday with the High Court seeking directives upon the government to explain what steps have been taken against the people responsible for the attacks on Hindus in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on October 30.Advocate Reza Ehsan Panna on behalf Rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra submitted the petition praying the court to declare illegal the local administration’s role in protecting the Hindus, their temples and houses in the upazila.On 30 October, some unruly people demolished 15 Hindu temples and vandalised more than 100 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment.Five days after the violent attacks, a group of miscreants also set fire on three houses of the Hindhu community and a temple on 3 October.On Saturday night, an attempt was made again to set fire on the house of the upazila vice-president and Juba League president, Anjan Kumar Dev.
