9 more arrested over Nasirnagar attacks

Police on Sunday morning arrested nine more people in connection with attacks on the Hindu community in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.Identities of the detainees could not be known immediately.In this connection, Abu Jafar, officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar Police Station, said police conducted separate drives in different areas of the upazila and arrested them.A total of 53 people have so far been arrested in connection with the attacks on the Hindu community, he added.On 30 October, some unruly people demolished 15 Hindu temples and vandalised more than 100 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment.Five days after the violent attacks, a group of miscreants also set fire on three houses of the Hindhu community and a temple on 3 October.On Saturday night, an attempt was made again to set fire on the house of the upazila vice-president and Juba League president, Anjan Kumar Dev.
