Parliamentary panel recommended on confiscation Monem Khan’s plot

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Public Works Ministry on Wednesday recommended Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakhkha (RAJUK) to take necessary measures on confiscation of a plot of land allotted to Monem Khan, who was steadfast in his allegiance to Pakistan and had opposed the creation Bangladesh.The committee made the recommendation at its 28th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Shawkat Ali presiding.Committee members Muhibur Rahman Manik, M Habibur Rahman, Abdur Rouf and Advocate Navana Akthar attended the meeting.There is a plot of land allotted to Monem Khan adjacent to graveyard at Banani, one of the elite areas in the capital.Monem Khan, who hailed from Bajitpur in Kishoreganj, was an important Muslim League leader.In 1962, he became the governor of erstwhile East Pakistan and was Ayub Khan’s henchman entrusted with the job of suppressing the Bengali movement for self-determination.He was shot dead by Muktibahini fighters at his Banani residence in Dhaka on Oct 13, 1971.
