Today is the 143rd birthday of AK Fazlul Huq, known as Sher-e-Bangla (Tiger of Bengal).He was born on 26 October 1873. Sher-e-Bangla was the first to advocate and present the Lahore Resolution, which called for the creation of sovereign Muslim-majority states in eastern and northwestern British India in 1940.Sher-e-Bangla Smrity Academy placed wreaths at great leader’s grave in Dhaka on Wednesday morning. A milad mahfil will also be held at his mazar.He obtained his BL degree in 1897 from the University Law College.Huq was elected to the Bengal Legislative Council and was appointed as the education minister under the diarchy scheme in 1924.In 1943, he was elected prime minister of Bengal during the British rule. From 1956 to 1958, he was governor of East Pakistan.Huq died in 1962.
