International Conference on Business & Economics kicks off in DU

The Faculty of Business Administration, University of Dhaka organized a two-day International Conference on Business & Economics with a theme of ‘reinventing business for the 21st century’ at the Senate Building of the university on Tuesday.The conference was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. A.A.M.S.Arefin Siddique.Professor Dr. A.A.M.S. Arefin Siddique said that the dominant force of social transformation is business and reminding that research has always been at the core of addressing economic and social challenges.He stressed the need of organizing similar events on a regular basis.Mr. Partha S. Ghosh highlighted in his paper, the emerging trends of advancement of technologies and their use, and how these trends would profoundly influence industry leaders in reshaping their strategies, developing organizations and running the operations.He asserted that companies that will have the courage to experiment with new art & science of Leadership, will define the future of global enterprise and determine how businesses will transitions to a new era.Professor Geoffrey Wood, a specialist on corporate governance and firm financing, spoke on comparative corporate governance within the context of crisis, extending the analysis to emerging markets.He emphasized on strengthening the long-term informal ties and co-operations among the firms.Professor Berrnadine in her deliberation also addressed that the issue of evolving business environment. Giving a brief outline of the key characteristics of the evolution of business in the 21st Century, she provided some implications of this evolution for industry and government in terms of capacity building strategies to prepare for ongoing transformation.Professor Shibli Rubayat-ul- Islam Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and Conference Chair welcomed the guest and participants of the event.A total of 44 research scholars from 10 countries are participating in the event. Professor Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University of Dhaka also spoke at the inaugural session of the conference.The opening ceremony was concluded by the vote of thanks given by the conference co-chair Professor Dr. M. Sadiqul Islam, Department of Finance, University of Dhaka.
