20th South Asia Peace Initiative (SAPI) conference held at the capital’s Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon on Friday afternoon.Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of House of the Nation addressed as the chief guest at the program while Kazi Firoz Rashid (MP) presided over the program.A total of 18 members of parliament, members of civil society, academicians, religious leaders and cultural personalities attended the programme.UPF also awarded Honourable Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as ‘Ambassadors for Peace’ certificate.While addressing, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said, ‘UPF promotes tolerance, peace, social harmony in different parts of the globe. Not only the state factors but also the non state factors have also influence in building peace.’Speaker emphasized on the necessity of faith based peace initives to bring peace in the society. She appreciates SAPI initives in Bangladesh as well as congratulates involved personalities of home and abroad in this regard. Politics should be shaped in a way of peace. Parliamentarians have important role in peace building process. Among others, the programme was also addressed by Dr. Chung Sik Yong, Regional President, UPF-Asia, Dr. Robert S. Kittel, Education Director, UPF-Asia, Hon. EK Nath Dhakal, Member of Parliament, also Ex-cabinet Minister, Government of Nepal & Prof. Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam, Secretary-General, UPF-Bangladesh.
