A dacoit was killed in an alleged gunfight with police on Kushtia-Meherpur highway at Nimtola on Wednesday at around 3am.The deceased was identified Aktarul alias British, son of Samsul Haque, of Borobaria village of Sadarpur union under Mirpur upazila.According to police, a gang of dacoits were taking preparation to commit robbery on Kushtia-Meherpur highway. Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot. Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire, forcing them to retaliate, triggering a ‘gunfight’.Later, the bullet-riddled body of Aktarul was found on the spot. However, his cohorts managed to flee. Police brought injured Aktarul to Mirpur upazila health complex where doctor declared him dead.Aktaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, confirmed the matter.
