The holy Ashura is being observed on Wednesday across the country with due religious solemnity commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).The day of Ashura is marked by Muslims as a whole in commemoration of the martyrdom of Hossain at Karbala Maidan in Iraq. The day is observed as a symbol of ‘sacrifice and mourning.’It falls on the 10th of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Today is the 10th day of the month of Muharram. Muslims across the world recall the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) along with his 72 followers. They embraced martyrdom for establishing truth and justice in the fight with soldiers of Yazid.To mark the day, political, socio-cultural and religious organisations will organise various programmes, including procession, Quran-Khwani, Milad Mahfil, fasting, special prayers and Doa Mahfil. The affluent class of society will arrange food distribution among the destitute.
