Pakistan has banned the broadcast of all Indian TV channels in the country for showing ‘illegal content’. Amid the tensions between the two nations over the deteriorating situation at the border, theatres in Pakistan have also begun taking down Bollywood films. ‘Strict action would be taken according to the law after October 15 if TV channels and distribution networks fail to follow the directions of the regulatory body,’ Pakistan’s electronic media regulator PEMRA said. With the decision, the Pakistan government has come in for criticism for depriving the masses of the little entertainment they have. The move comes days after an association of Indian film-makers sought to ban Pakistani artistes from working in India until the two nations’ ties resumed a sense of normalcy. PEMRA said it had received numerous complaints about ‘illegal Indian content’ on satellite TV channels and distribution networks. While no prominent Pakistani artiste was in India when the ban was imposed, concerts of Shafqat Amanat Ali and Atif Aslam were cancelled in view of the hostilities.Source: Times of India
